Here is an alternative to the traditional paper chain Christmas garland. Make little paper baubles using 5 strips of paper (or any uneven number). Staple the top together. Cut the middle one shorter, then the pair next to it slightly longer and leave the outside pair the longest. Staple the other end making sure the ends are lined up. You can use them as individual decorations (they are great as ceiling decorations) or make a garland/bunting. You might want to use a pattern or measure the strips to keep the same size if that is the desired look.
If kids are helping, get them to practise their measuring skills, cutting, stapling and paper punching skills. This is a great visual way to represent even/uneven numbers too.
